New Zealand Escape - 30.01.2011

NZ

In 2010, as I was struggling to figure out my next move in life both professionally and personally, I decided to make a full stop and take a break. Yes, it might soundlike the “eat, pray, love” book, but instead of going for a year to 3 remote locations, I went for a month to New Zealand. Best desition ever! I have to say… New Zealand is a dream, a wonderful country. The trip, renewed me, gave me time to distance myself from my real life, my problems, and gave me the opportunity to put things in perspective, think clearly, and gave me the peace of mind (and balls) I needed to make the right desitions. I spend two weeks as a volunteer with the Global Volunteer Network for an environmental program, learning about the wonderful, fragile, and unique eco-system of NZ. I was given the opportunity to be in touch with the earth once again by working not in front of a computer, but outside with my hands. I did not only have the opportunity to see amazing natural reserves and landscapes, but I was able to learn from great people, a lot a about taking care of the environment and the impact we make everyday.

After these program, I spend another two weeks traveling in a very cool Escape van, camping, and doing trekkings. Since I was 10 years old living in the south of Perú and seeing the “Anchor Milk” commercials, I remember wanting to go to NZ; and in 2010 I fulfilled my dream. I have to tell you, I recommend doing it at least once in your life. Go away, as far away as you can, escape somewhere you always wanted to go, change your routine to see other places and meet other people. Go, do it soon.
